From Attending UWI, Mona in Kingston to Bordeaux, France!!
“And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.” – Romans 8:28
Life is full of hurdles, but for this upcoming inspirational young lady, these obstacles serve as a stepping stone to achievement. Meet Chesine, a former Excelsior High School (for six years) student and a former Camperdown High School student, where she completed her senior year of high school (grade thirteen). With phrases derived directly from the Bible, this youngster utilizes Romans 8:28 as her main drive to overcome all of life's challenges. Along with this, she revisits her valedictorian speech while listening to motivational music and encouraging pastors on YouTube to provide her with the drive she needs to keep pushing towards her objectives and aspirations. During our discussion, she mentioned her parents, instructors like Mr. Jackson and Mr. Chung, her previous high school principal, and her church family as major role models. They have given her the necessary foundation and admirable qualities to serve as an inspiration in her life.
Chesine's college application procedure was described as uncomplicated; nevertheless, her first semester presented her with several problems. She encountered the difficulty of online learning during her first year at the University of the West Indies, where she majored in International Relations. She was also taking French classes at the time. As a result, learning French online was problematic, as she noted that to effectively absorb the subject, you needed to both listen and see the individual. However, by the second semester, she had discovered new means to successfully pursue the language online, which resulted in her improved performance in her language studies.
During this time, her prior French teacher urged her to apply for the UWI French foreign exchange program. She was needed to prepare a motivation letter and a resume as part of the application procedure. She advanced to the interview level after being one of the successful candidates. In this interview, she recounts being asked countless questions in both French and English about herself, the program, and her future. Fortunately, she was one of the fortunate few who were chosen for this outstanding scholarship opportunity! She is presently studying international politics and corporations at the University of Bordeaux in France! During our discussion, she says that by the end of her involvement in this exchange program, she will have earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Martinique, a master's degree from the University of Bordeaux, and a master's degree from the University of the West Indies, Mona.
Chesine joined Dream Jamaica in the summer of 2018 and has been pleased with her decision ever since. She was a member of our college preparation cohort here at Dream Jamaica. She was exposed to a variety of mentors and motivating speakers throughout these sessions. She goes on to say that because of her involvement in these sessions, she learned the value of goal setting, how to create a resume and cover letter, how to approach your goals, and how to set a time limit for setting and attaining them. She was able to effectively apply and market herself because of this, and she was able to achieve all the goals she set for herself in that time frame.
As time passes, she hopes to continue her road while deepening her trust in God and completing her purpose in him. She envisions herself bridging the gap between her degrees and information technology in the next five to 10 years as she aims to enter the technology industry. During that period, she would also pursue her passion for the arts and spread the gospel to everyone in her society with her church family.
